Hiroshima’s modern history is well known, the atomic bomb dropped at 8:15am on August 6, 1945 destroying nearly everything in a 4 mile (7 km) radius. It also took out 108 of the city’s 122 street cars run by Hiroshima Electric Co known as Hiroden.
Japan’s Bullet-train or Shinkansen is super fast, traveling at speeds of 350km/hr through wide landscapes of rice paddies of north Japan. This is the Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen and in this episode we’ll ride from Tokyo Station to Shin-Aomori in regular and GRAN CLASS cars eating 7 gourmet ekiben, Japanese Train Food.
This is a location I’ve come to in Shizuoka for watching the Shinkansen fly by in front of Mt Fuji at high speed. It’s the classic “Welcome to Japan” shot for many movie location shoots here from Hollywood to TV. You can catch them all: Nozomi, Hikari, Kodama — the Tokaido Shinkansen
We’ll ride the whole 58 min loop of Tokyo on the historic Yamanote Line on the new E235 series trains – clockwise from Tokyo Station ▶︎ Shinagawa ▶︎ Shibuya ▶︎ Shinjuku ▶︎ Ikebukuro ▶︎ Ueno ▶︎ Akihabara ▶︎ Tokyo
Welcome to Fukuoka’s main train station, Hakata Station in the city center. Let’s look at the Station front (Ekimae), some of the shops and getting around. The stream is planned to last 40 minutes.
I’m at Tokyo Station (at 6am) to ride Japan’s bullet train to Kyoto this morning. I don’t have a JR Rail Pass but I do have 15 minutes to get on the train! I also want an ekiben (train bento or boxed lunch) and A SEAT ON THE TRAIN!
I will buy a NON-RESERVED TICKET from a vending machine.
The bento shop is on the way. It’s time to RUN!!
(Can I get both in time?)
