Hiking from one hidden mountain village to another, many lost in time – mountain huts, ryokan, Japanese Inns with amazing cuisine and hot spring, onsen towns will keep you coming back to each of the 30 Long Trails across the country.
This time, we took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Iiyama in Nagano and hiked section 9 of the Shin-Etsu Trail staying at Katakuri no Yado, an abandoned school turned mountain inn for hikers that is a story in itself! We hiked the 10km to Akiyamago Village and in the episode, ate more soba noodles and tempura than one can image!
