When the Tokyo Summer Games were cancelled in 2020, I was very upset because as a resident of this city, many of us had been looking forward to the seeing our Tokyo shine on the world stage and the greatest hosts ever. One year later, in a situation many consider to be worse than a year before, the city and the IOC went ahead to plan the world’s biggest sporting event in the most challenging situation possible. For residents of the host city, what would be left to experience since spectators to venues were banned, events canceled, the city in a state of emergency. This is my experience as a resident living through the Tokyo 2020 in 2021.
